Little BoyOnce a little boy went to school.
He was quite a little boy
And it was quite a big school.
But when the little boy
Found that he could go to his room
By walking right in from the door outside
He was happy;
And the school did not seem
Quite so big anymore.

One morning
When the little boy had been in school awhile,
The teacher said:
"Today we are going to make a picture."
"Good!" thought the little boy.
He liked to make all kinds;
Lions and tigers,
Chickens and cows,
Trains and boats;
And he took out his box of crayons
And began to draw.

But the teacher said, "Wait!"
"It is not time to begin!"
And she waited until everyone looked ready.
"Now," said the teacher,
"We are going to make flowers."
"Good!" thought the little boy,
He liked to make beautiful ones
With his pink and orange and blue crayons.
But the teacher said "Wait!"
"And I will show you how."
And it was red, with a green stem.
"There," said the teacher,
"Now you may begin."

The little boy looked at his teacher's flower
Then he looked at his own flower.
He liked his flower better than the teacher's
But he did not say this.
He just turned his paper over,
And made a flower like the teacher's.
It was red, with a green stem.

On another day
When the little boy had opened
The door from the outside all by himself,
The teacher said:
"Today we are going to make something with clay."
"Good!" thought the little boy;

He liked clay.
He could make all kinds of things with clay:
Snakes and snowmen,
Elephants and mice,
Cars and trucks
And he began to pull and pinch
His ball of clay.

But the teacher said "Wait!"
"And I will show you how."
And she showed everyone how to make
One deep dish.
"There," said the teacher,
"Now you may begin."

The little boy looked at the teacher's dish;
Then he looked at his own.
He liked his better than the teacher's
But he did not say this.
He just rolled his clay into a big ball again
And made a dish like the teacher's.
It was a deep dish.

And pretty soon
The little boy learned to wait,
And to watch
And to make things just like the teacher.
And pretty soon
He didn't make things of his own anymore.

Then it happened
That the little boy and his family
Moved to another house,
In another city,
And the little boy
Had to go to another school.
This school was even bigger
Than the other one.
And there was no door from the outside
Into his room.
He had to go up some big steps
And walk down a long hall
To get to his room.

And the very first day
He was there,
The teacher said:
"Today we are going to make a picture."
"Good!" thought the little boy.
And he waited for the teacher
To tell what to do.
But the teacher didn't say anything.
She just walked around the room.

When she came to the little boy
She asked, "Don't you want to make a picture?"
"Yes," said the lttle boy.
"What are we going to make?"
"I don't know until you make it," said the teacher.
"How shall I make it?" asked the little boy.
"Why, anyway you like," said the teacher.
"And any color?" asked the little boy.
"Any color," said the teacher.
"If everyone made the same picture,
And used the same colors,
How would I know who made what,
And which was which?"
"I don't know," said the little boy.
And he began to make a red flower with a green stem.

by Helen ideas for encouraging communication
Drawing with chalk outside

You will need:

Lots of different coloured chalk

Outdoor drawing area - could be a cement pavement or concrete in the garden.

What to do:

Give your child two or three colours for them to choose from. This helps them identify the colours and their names.

They can draw shapes, this helps with hand skills and vocabulary to identify the shapes.

Draw a square for them and help them to create a picture of a family member inside. This helps with language structure, increasing vocabulary, hand skills and making choices.

When drawing a face or picture of a family member, ask your child to try and use at least three colours when drawing the family portraits. Say ‘what colour for the eyes', ‘what colour for the nose' what colour for the mouth' and repeat this back to the child.

Let the child draw a picture and you have to guess what or who it is. This helps with narrative skills and vocabulary used to describe the picture.

Write the name or help your child to write who it is.

Invite some friends and family to see the pictures and guess who it is.

Use water to make the picture disappear, asks the child to describe what was there before. This helps with memory and narrative.

Courtesy http://www.ican.org.uk/ Nimshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13632785561339385074noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5818914057655847689.post-19388987967005645452009-06-20T17:17:00.005+05:302009-06-20T17:23:26.523+05:30This is for my SunnyThe Alchemy of Love
By Jalal-al-Din Rumi

You come to us
From another world

From beyond the stars
And void of space.
Transcendent, Pure,
Of unimaginable beauty,
Bringing with you
The essence of love

You transform all
Who are touched by you.
Mundane concerns,
Troubles and sorrows
Dissolve in your presence,
Bringing joy
To ruler and ruled
To peasant and king

You bewilder us
With your grace.
All evils
Transform into
Goodness.

You are the master alchemist.

You light the fire of love
In earth and sky
In heart and soul
Of every being.

Through your loving
Existence and nonexistence merge.
All opposites unite.
All that is profane
Becomes sacred again.Nimshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13632785561339385074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5818914057655847689.post-36392339260632931792009-06-20T16:59:00.005+05:302009-06-20T17:06:25.811+05:30Mother's day

Thats the card 4 years old son for me on this mother's day at his pre-school.
When I open this card it says "I LUV YOU"
Such a cute creativity!!! Placing a new challenge or problem before your preschooler helps her brainstorm new ways to solve it. These are necessary life skills your child has to learn, not only in the classroom environment, but also as an adult.
Try these simple Activities :
1. Push her toy under the couch, and ask her to retrieve it.Watch what she does. If she needs help, give her a rod or stick to try pushing the car towards her.

2. Ask her to fetch you something that’s on a higher shelf she can’t reach. Observe how she solves the problem. Make suggestions if necessary – she can drag a chair or stool over…

3. Mix a cup each of beans, salt and rice in a large bowl, and give your child three smaller bowls, a strainer and a colander. Ask her to separate the beans, rice and salt. talk about the different ways you could do this.

4. Spill some water on the ground (you could do this when she actually does spill something on the floor!) and give her a variety of materials to wipe the mess with – paper napkins, a wash cloth, sponge, a synthetic piece of fabric etc. Discuss what material is best for mopping up the water.

5. Draw two parallel lines in the yard with a piece of chalk, about four feet apart. Place a piece of crumpled paper just inside one line. Ask her to get the paper to the other line without touching it. Brainstorm different ways she can so this – the obvious one would be to blow on it. See if there are other ways to move the paper forward – fan it with a plastic plate or magazine, perhaps. Memorizing things alone won’t prepare your child for serious learning. The brain is exercised when you throw these little challenges at it.

Have fun!
Nimshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13632785561339385074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5818914057655847689.post-54471537975233686382008-10-08T20:42:00.001+05:302008-10-08T21:33:49.105+05:30Homeschooling
While planning activities for my son I come across many sites. I likes this concept of homeschooling. But I think it good for foundation stage. Kids do need to go out in the the proper school outside and see the world from their own eyes. Exposure to school environment and company of other kids is very important to enhance social and communication skills.

I will soon put links of interesting homeschooling resources which I too use for my son.

My sone is 3 yrs 11 months old and goes to playgroup everyday for 2.5 hrs.
Nimshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13632785561339385074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5818914057655847689.post-40113356151663847802008-10-08T20:19:00.001+05:302008-10-08T21:34:41.533+05:30The first post
This blog is for putting all my experinces of parenting.
